OH NO!! Not again!!!

Garry, Rich and I decided our trip for 2008 would be to Beijiing, China for a couple of days before boarding the high speed train to Lhasa, Tibet, then trek up to Everest Base Camp with the final destination of Kathmandu, Nepal. The journey begins May 30, 2008. This trip marks the 10th anniversary since we all first met in Nepal in April 1998.

A couple of months ago we deposited our money to secure a space on the trip, booked the flight to Beijiing and attempted to figure out an exercise plan to increase our endurance and stamina. The first two are certain, the last portion of exercise is still up for grabs.

But, now, another twist has occurred. Yahoo reported the violence in Tibet today along with China closing access to Everest Base Camp from the China side until May 10. There were also uprisings in Kathmandu, Nepal. What have we done to deserve this? Karma, perhaps. The dark cloud is following us. We thought our concerns with violence and terrorist attacks in Pakistan would be our last exposure to political unrest.

Following this trip, we plan on heading to Kolkata (Calcutta), India and take another train to Darjeeling, then into Sikkim ending in Bhutan before flying home on June 28. However, this second trip needs one more person to sign up to guarantee departure. We're keeping our fingers crossed hoping the trip will go. Anyone interested?

Until then, follow the events in Tibet,

Tamara, Garry and Rich
